A Little Boudoir

Alex and I had WAY too much fun in the studio, shooting a boudoir calender for her boyfriend for Christmas. Here's one of my favourite's of the tamer shots. Let's hope he likes it!

Natalie + Belly

I had a great time last night shooting Natalie's maternity portrait. There's nothing like working with a model that's not only beautiful, and open-minded, but also great to talk to. Thanks again for your help with my magazine assignment Natalie!

My Twins

I had a blast today shooting my two favourite babies in the whole wide world. My niece, Kendal, is 5 months old today, and my daughter, Rose, at 3 1/2 months. Here's a couple of my favourites. Enjoy!

Amelie

My first time shooting with the Speedotron lighting system today, and I'm happy to say that neither I, nor baby blew up! Thanks to Darren, Melanie, and their beautiful daughter Amelie.

3 week old Kyle

I had yet another adorable model in the studio today. He was so content just hanging out in his basket. An absolute pleasure to photograph!

Baby Erik

I spent last night photographing this gorgeous, little fella. By far my favorite newborn model to date. Why? Because he's the first one to not pee on ANY of my props! (Though Dad's shirt didn't fare so well). Thanks to Valerie, Ben, and of course little Erik.

Sara's Maternity Shoot

Many thanks to beautiful Sara, and her baby bump, for braving the cold with me this morning, and helping me out with my environmental portrait assignment for school. Not that you can tell, but she only has a few more weeks left until her little one arrives. Doesn't she look fantastic?

My "other" love

I've been going through some old photos today, and I thought I would share a few images of my adorable niece, Kendal. These were taken about 3 months ago, when she was only 2 weeks old. With our return to Ottawa at the beginning of September, I no longer get to see her everyday, and I'm missing her terribly. I can't wait for her next visit and photoshoot in November! :)

For the love of hats.

Little Miss Rose was nice enough to model my newest photography props for me last night. They're almost as adorable as she is.

Richmond Fair

I had a lot of fun today shooting at the Richmond Fair, as part of the Algonquin College 2nd year class. Every year the Richmond Agricultural Society grants special permission to the students to photograph the event. They get some pretty sweet photos, and we get free admission to the fair for the weekend.
Here are a few of my favorite shots of the day.

A Confession

When you become a mother, you begin to find yourself doing things that you always swore you would never do. Baby talking, singing, acting like your own mother, etc. Yesterday, I took this plunge into motherhood, by purchasing my very first point and shoot camera. Yes, the one I claimed I would never own.
And I must say, I love it. It fits in the diaper bag, it's easy to grab when the urge arises, and most importantly, it gives me the freedom to take TERRIBLE photos, without feeling like I'm abusing my digital SLR.
A few of my new favorite photos, horrendous lighting and all...

Newborn photography

As many of you know, my husband and I were recently blessed with the birth of our first baby, Rose Amelia.

As a photographer, I anticipated her birth with much excitement for the newborn photos I so naively thought I would have the energy for. But as our little princess made her entry into this world, and the reality of sleepless nights, and marathon nursing sessions took over, photo shoots took a backseat on my priority list.

Now that Rose is 8 weeks old, and life has gone back to relatively normal, I realize how much I missed out on by not capturing her so tiny, and curled up, and sleepy. As fantastic a model as she is, there's no convincing her to curl up in a crocheted cocoon, or hanging stork pouch. Believe me, I've tried!

From the few photo sessions that I did manage to squeeze in over the past 2 months, I have absolutely fallen in love with photographing babies. Going forward, I hope to commit a large portion of my time to newborn and infant photography. And of course, those beautiful, blossoming bellies where they come from!

If you are in the Ottawa area, are expecting (or know someone that is), and are interested in having newborn and/or maternity photographs taken, please contact me at rebecca.balfour@hotmail.com.

In the meantime, please enjoy a few shots of my beautiful baby girl.
